Development of Biodegradation Processes and Test Methods
Project Snapshot
Research Goal
To enable the development of emerging circular, alternative, and biodegradable materials by offering testing and prototyping services to understand how they perform.
Project Description
Identifying, establishing, and modifying equipment and processes for testing biodegradability and evaluating the viability of circular and alternative materials.
Impact
This enables emerging materials to enter the market by validating them on a pilot scale, allowing developers to certify the viability as they connect with production partners.

Executive Director, Textile Technology Center, Gaston College and Doctoral Student, NC State University
As Executive Director of the Textile Technology Center at Gaston College, Jasmine Cox-Wade focuses on expanding access to textile education for students across rural western North Carolina. Through a partnership with NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles, the center enables students to earn degrees in textile technology close to home.
Her career has developed within the Textile Technology Center, progressing from Physical Testing Laboratory Technician and Process Coordinator to Director of Textile Technology Programs and now Executive Director. That progression gives her a clear view of how the center operates at every level and shapes how she leads it.
She is currently pursuing a PhD in Textile Technology Management at NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles, where she also earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Her work spans textile and apparel technology and management, with a focus on textile materials.
